Bavaria is often considered as “the cradle of beer”. In 1517, the Reinheitsgebot was published in this province of southern Germany. The Reinheitsgebot is the reference guide concerning standards for the sale and composition of beer. It only allows water, hops, malt and yeast as ingredients and stipulates that beers not exclusively using barley-malt, such as wheat beer, must be top-fermented.
